Aurantium is the Syracuse University Undergraduate Philosophy Journal. Run through the Philosophy Department and connected to the Philosophy Club, our goal is to increase engagement in philosophy in the Syracuse community and beyond.
We release each semester with the Fall “Edition Σ” publications only open to Syracuse University student submissions and the Spring semester “Edition Φ” being open to anyone.
Aurantium is Latin for the word “orange,” to represent our Syracuse pride. Although, the term is anachronistic—oranges didn’t exist in Italy when Latin was spoken, and the fruit predates the color. But it is what shows up when you google ‘orange in latin’ so it is good enough for us.
Thank you for your interest in our publication!
What is Aurantium?
Our logo, created by Industrial & Interaction Design student Will Shick (‘24), is the Greek letter phi—the symbol of philosophy—stylized as an orange.
